The Morvan Area of Bourgogne

France - country of the Sun, nature, tranquillity and holiday - has a number of national parks. The Morvan is one of these parks with 95 municipalities in its four departments Cote d'or, Nievre, Saone et Loire and Yonne.

It’s a hilly and wooded area, the highest mountain is Haut Folin, 901 meters high which is in the south of the region. It doesn’t rain very often, but when it rains it really pours!.The winter can be cold, -15 degrees Celsius is not exceptional, creating winter sports possibilities. The summer is deliciously warm. Autumn is notoriously long and pleasant. Even in November you can often enjoy the sun. It is also quiet and peaceful. You’ll find clear skies and pure air, and the stars are very bright at night. The local people are very pleasant and usually helpful and friendly.

Because of its tranquillity, beauty, and the pleasant population, you will find the Morvan an excellent place to live and relax.

The Morvan lies approximately 575 kms from Calais and around 420 kms from Le Havre. It has delightful scenery, in which you can go walking, horse riding, fishing, swimming, sailing, etc. The areas around the Lakes in particular are well endowed with facilities for all outdoor activities. Lake Setton has a tourist boat, water ski-ing and canoeing. There is wild water canoeing on parts of the rivers Cure, Cousin and Serin. For walkers there are many well marked footpaths, circular routes and some very off beat walks also.
